Age is just a number. Whether one is a young adult or an older person does not matter and endows one with no special privilege. What matters is what one is doing, how one contributes toward society, and what ideas and values one espouses.

In the 1980s, one of China’s export items was the magazine China Pictorial, also published as چین باتصویر in Urdu. It was mailed free to subscribers. I was a subscriber myself and used to read it avidly. At the same time, the notorious Cultural Revolution was taking place. But in the magazine, they presented only happy faces. There’s an iron curtain set between the people and the Riyasati Ashrafiya, the real owners of the state of Pakistan. No information, that is, grievances, complaints, problems, and voices manifesting them, from the side of the people can cross over to the other side, to the world of the Riyasati Ashrafiya. How the implementation of a government order is accomplished in Pakistan is symptomatic of the bureaucratic control of the things! The Punjab government allowed free travel on its Metrobus and Orange Train services. The next day I happened to travel via the Orange Train. They asked me to show my ID card. So was the service free only for the Pakistani citizens? Or else, how many foreigners live in Pakistan? That’s the bureaucratic style of execution.
